Highlights: Midwest Terminals of Toledo International
Midwest Terminals of Toledo International is a full-service US port at the mouth of the Maumee River at the west end of Lake Erie. Its facilities total over 320 acres and 675,000 square feet of warehousing with Foreign Trade Zone, London Metal Exchange (LME) and NYMEX availability.
There has been a lot happening at Midwest Terminals and it appears that the trend will continue. First, Midwest Terminals has installed 5,000ft of new rail and replaced 12,000ft of existing rail on facility. Currently, there are 17,000ft of rail on CSX.
In addition to the two existing cranes (capable of 99 metric tonnes and 65 metric tonnes lift) two Liebherr LHM 280 cranes were received in 2010 (each capable of lifting 84 metric tonnes). Each Liebherr is equipped with a Bromma EH5U spreaders capable of lifting 20ft and 40ft containers, a Peiner HMRG grab and a Verstegen clamshell grab.
Other equipment delivered recently include a new Mantsinen RB 200 material handler with multiple attachments including grabs and a magnet, as well as a new 42†shiploading conveyor capable of loading at speeds up to 1,000tph (tonnes per hour). This is in addition to an existing shiploading conveyor with similar capacity. The addition of this new equipment will allow Midwest Terminals to work vessels faster, more efficiently and safer than ever before.
Finally, in 2012, Midwest Terminals will begin building a new terminal, named Ironville, which will be located upriver from its existing terminal. Ironville is a 180 acre site which will allow Midwest Terminals to offer custom solutions for bulk, liquid and warehousing. Rail and truck service will include a Norfolk Southern 100 car rail loop and 150,000lb gross weight, MI heavy haul route once completed.
