“Game Changersâ€
The next few years will be interesting times for Canadian Ports with many domestic and global “Game Changers” affecting the world in which we operate. To continue our role as effective gateways to global and domestic markets it is imperative we have a clear understanding of what these developments mean so we can prepare today to meet the future needs of the logistics industry.
9/11, Steve Jobs and wireless technology are examples events, people or things that have significantly altered what and how we do things today. These are prominent examples of “Game Changers†that have transformed the status quo and motivated us to do things in a different way.
Within the shipping industry, containerization dramatically altered goods movement allowing cost effective and quick access to international markets. The opening of the Panama Canal marked the start of a revolution in global trade. In North America, the creation of the St. Lawrence Seaway modified transportation routes allowing a marine alternative to reach further inland. Finally, changes in consumer purchasing habits in emerging countries have opened growth opportunities for Canadian natural resources. These are a few of the shipping related “Games Changers†that have affected virtually every Port across Canada.
What future “Game Changers†can be predicted that could alter the way we conduct Port business? Please join us at the Port of Hamilton as we host the 54th annual ACPA conference to explore future “Game Changersâ€.
